the decision was made to master the “Fire” album ourselves.
been spending some hours up at Sound Farm working on that. Mastering your own work can be very difficult. You know it very well but a true mastering engineer really knows how to listen with an unbiased ear and has the experience, tools, and talent to do good work. a good mix can be ruined by a bad mastering job. A good mastering job is truly priceless. i highly recommend investing in one when it is possible.

Recording a string quartet with The Envy Corps for their upcoming release.
We tracked to 2in tape for the sessions at 15ips CCIR +6/185. with the Studer 827 locked to Pro Tools.
All instruments were close miked only to have for backup purposes. These channels were muted after good signal was attained.
Our main sound was achieved by a pair of Coles 4038′s through Neve1073′s – set as a closer non-coincident stereo pair about 2 feet off of the perfomers,
a pair of Royer 121′s through API 512′s-set further back as a non-coincident stereo pair, and a Wunder CM7, and a Soundelux ELAM251 as our 2 room mics. The room at Sound Farm sounds just wonderful for recordings like this, the sound coming through the mic’s was outstanding.
“THE ROOM NEEDS MORE BLANKETS!!!”
we did end up blanketing the room quite a bit to go for a warmer and shorter room sound. And gobo’ing the quartet into one corner of the room, giving the closer ribbon mic’s a more focused sound.
It really did sound amazing.
Thanks to all the very talented players in the quartet- Gretchen, Leah, Kevin, and Patrick- and also The Envy Corps , as always, a great time !!!- Look for their new album coming out soon

Hello and Welcome to Gulliver’s Travels! My name is Matt Sepanic and I have dedicated a good part of my life to music and the recording there of. I love the diversity of getting different sounds for artists in the studio and have an affinity for making artists feel comfortable and having a good time in the studio while maintaining an aggressive work ethic. When I am not in the studio, I love being outdoors – camping, four-wheeling, hiking, etc. I will be updating this site with all of my current works in the world of music as well as use this as a place to diary what is going on in my life. I may post things as big as “Does dark matter really exist?” to things as small as “Why hasn’t Velcro made a comeback yet?” Or maybe, “We used a Keeley Compressor with a Big Muff through a Fender Twin today and it sounded like this!!! SHOCKA KLABAMMO!!!”
I am currently on a search for a place that has a true energy to it; a place that speaks to me. After a recent disaster in my life, I am searching for the next place to pick up and feel as though I am living life with a purpose again. It’s tough to lose everything you hold close to you and have worked your entire life for. But with such a loss I have experienced a reawakening of my original love –music. And particularly the diversity it is capable of.
Music is truly a language. And one that takes no learned understanding of it to enjoy. It merely is chosen when it evokes some personal enjoyment, feeling, expression, or emotion that resounds inside an individual. In this aspect of life we all truly enjoy Freedom of Choice. We are our own Head of State when we chose the music we enjoy . Not too many things in our lives carry such a freedom. So be safe and enjoy life- and maybe try some new music out every now and then – you never know what you might find hiding under a country song or a reggae jam!
